Trumpets one through six are still blowing. God is moving heaven and earth to liberate His children. God’s big move in the Old Testament was the Exodus from Egypt. God’s big move in the New Testament is Jesus. In Jesus, God renders a verdict, speaks salvation to us, and condemns the deathly ways of the world. In Jesus, God properly warns and graciously invites us. Judgment Day is wrapped up in response to Jesus.

What if Judgment Day is today? What if Judgment Day is every day? Our response reveals whether we are deaf or listening, blind or sighted, closed or open.

The judgment of God is about being addressed by a Holy God who sees into and through us. It is about the total failure of our excuses, defense systems, and clever rationalizations. It is about standing in blazing light that leaves no dark corners and about sweeping fire that purifies, burns up sin, and leaves only holiness behind. The judgment of God threatens our old way of life, our beastly alliances with evil, and our illusions of sovereignty. It interrupts our plans, reveals our motives, and introduces a different perspective. The judgment of God shatters our downward drift with sirens of warning.

And our response to this judgment reveals whether we belong to the people being saved or to the people being destroyed. Judgment Day is every day. And it is today.

Today, if you hear his voice,

do not harden your hearts (Heb. 4:7).
