CHAPTER NINE

Sam & Billie

E ach day, and each conversation is a new experience. This morning I talked with a cat named Sam who had begun peeing on his woman’s purse. He was demanding the attention of his woman, while she was focused on the loss of her other cats who had recently wandered off. It was Sam’s desire that his woman find gratitude in the fact that he was still there with her. He hoped that she would appreciate the opportunity to exchange love with him in a way that could only happen in the absence of the other cats.

I shared Sam’s message with his woman and moved on to my next conversation of the day, which was to talk with a dog named Billie. I received an email from Billie’s woman asking for assistance with a new and troubling behavior.

Dear Maia,

I am having a challenge with my dog, Billie. I have taken her to work with me for a number of years now, but lately when I arrive she refuses to get out of my truck. I literally have to pull her out so that we can go into the office. I don’t want to force her, but I need to get to work. Will you check with her to see why she is behaving this way?

I took a few moments to clear my mind so that I could be fully present to talk with Billie. I had talked with her on a few occasions in the past. She was a wise and wonderful dog and loving companion to my client, Rebecca.
