Descending at the Second Coming

All of that leads us to all the verses and passages of Scripture that form our expectations for the future return of the Lord Jesus Christ. Here’s a quick sampling of them. Jesus Himself is speaking in the first two:

For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels.

—Matthew 16:27

But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne.

—Matthew 25:31

For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.

In addition to these, I want to quote a choice passage in which Jesus pulls back the veil for a moment. He has just met Nathanael:

Nathanael answered Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel.”

Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” And He said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”

I want to be a Nathanael, don’t you? I want to see that!
