A lot of in-between things happened, but we can see clearly that the breakthrough Daniel needed came to pass as a result of angelic and divine intervention. Glory to God!

AN ANGEL DELIVERED PETER FROM PRISON

Herod the King was so upset he murdered James, John’s brother, and he had Peter arrested. All of this happened during the week of Passover, a time when there were many people in Jerusalem. Herod had sixteen soldiers assigned to guard Peter day and night. During the night, Peter was bound to two soldiers by chains. Believers went before the Lord and prayers were sent up for Peter’s release. An angel appeared and gave Peter specific instructions; and after Peter obeyed, the chains fell off. Scripture reveals that Peter didn’t realize he was actually seeing an angel, he thought he was seeing a vision; nevertheless, he continued to follow the angel. As they passed the guards, they came to a gate and the gate opened by itself.

This is such a beautiful and remarkably detailed story of deliverance. What I glean from this story is that Peter followed instructions and obeyed in a spirit of understanding the totality of what was taking place. He didn’t ask questions. As you will see when reading the Scripture passage, the angel said, “Quickly,” which was a sure indication that things in the supernatural realm had been properly planned according to the will of God and there was no time to procrastinate, delay, or ask questions.

There are many times when God wants to show forth His glory through deliverance, but we pause and ask questions or we get in the way. I encourage you to keep this story before you in the wake of your deliverance, for you may never know when it will take place.

It was about this time that King Herod arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them. He had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword. When he saw that this met with approval among the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. This happened during the Festival of Unleavened Bread. After arresting him, he put him in prison, handing him over to be guarded by four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring him out for public trial after the Passover.

So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.

The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists.

Then the angel said to him, “Put on your clothes and sandals.” And Peter did so. “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me,” the angel told him. Peter followed him out of the prison, but he had no idea that what the angel was doing was really happening; he thought he was seeing a vision.
