Finding categories for my drawings was a challenge. Because most of the drawings were not planned when I made them, I feel like more of an observer than an expert when I look at them. So, I have grouped and described the drawings by the feelings they elicited from me at first glance.

The first drawing here, captioned simply “Middle School,” is one of my favorites in the entire book. It certainly depicts me, but also the thousands of other kids who just didn’t “fit in.” The boy calling for his mother follows closely on the middle school theme. After that, most of the drawings are of sweetness, vulnerability, and love. The three at the end are simply grownups who share the same characteristics as the kids.
