How to Draft a Hexagon

If you decide to draw your own hexie templates by hand, here’s a good method. (Learn more about drawing your own templates in chapter 3.)

Instructions

1. Decide how long you need each side of your hexagon to be. Draw a horizontal line that length. Then, set your compass so the point is at one end of the line and the pencil is at the other end. Swing your compass up from each end of the line to make two marks, which cross at the hexagon’s center.

2. Leave your compass set as it is, and place the point at the center mark you just drew. Rotate the compass to draw a complete circle.
