CHAPTER ELEVEN
Def Jamâs Bad Boy
After spending six months on house arrest with everybody running around hollering about FREE BIG MEECH, Big Meech was finally free.
One day he hit me up out the blue. âYo, weâre going to Cancun.â
I was like, âWhoâs going to Cancun, Meech?â
âWe,â he said, like that explained it.
âMan, whoâs we?â
âWe, man, we! Everybody. Call everybody you know. Iâm calling everybody I know. Iâm getting a plane.â
That was too much for me. âWhat you mean youâre getting a plane?â
With his music blaring in the background, he was like, âWhat you mean, what do I mean? A plane, homie. A plane. And Iâm not talking about no little G5 neither. Iâm talking about a 747 or some shit, like those joints Delta flies. Depends on how many people we can get. Make some calls and let me know.â
Sure enough, Big Meech chartered a big-ass plane and he flew everybody to Cancun. And Iâm talking everybody. There must have been two hundred people on board, but it felt like the whole city was there. It was Lil Jon, Bone Crusher, Juvenile, me, damn near every stripper in Atlanta, plus J-Bo, O-Dog, and the whole crew. Meech had the flight attendants pouring Cristal the whole flight, and he kept dancing in the aisle and running up on the pilots in the cockpit talking about, âYo, let me fly! Let me fly! I paid for this motherfuckerâlet me fly the plane!â
I remember the pilots hopped on the PA system, like, âLadies and gentlemen, if you donât take your seats, weâll be forced to turn around and return to America.â
It was wild. We did make it to Mexico, though. And we had a ball.
From the moment we touched down, Meech paid for everything. He bought out a hotel right on the beach and put everybody up, chartered boats, rented Jet Skis. I remember at one point, O-Dog was zipping off through the waves talking about, âIâm going to Cuba!â It was that type of trip.
Every night weâd all link up and mob over to this club called The City, rolling two hundred deep. That was the first time Iâd ever been to a DJ S&S party, and I swear he played Fat Joeâs âLean Backâ so many times. The song had just come out, and heâd play it a hundred times, and then throw something else on real quick like Usherâs âConfessionsâ just to mess with the crowd, and then heâd be right back on âLean Back.â Iâd never heard anybody break a record like that, but it worked, and âLean Backâ became the theme song of the whole trip.
Thatâs honestly one of the best trips Iâve ever been on, and I wrote âThatâs How Ya Feelâ on the plane ride home.

Meech and J-Bo were two of my biggest fans early on, and Meech was always a big believer in my music. Whenever weâd be out, he was always calling people over to introduce them to me.
