TALKING HEADS

David Byrne: I used to do paintings of electric guitars.

Jerry Harrison: I started painting when my band [The Modern Lovers] broke up.

Harrison: I object to us as “artists who have chosen the medium of music” because I find that distasteful and very unfunky and we don’t perform in art galleries.

Harrison: The name was chosen so as not to give anyone a preconceived idea about our music.

Different perspectives in different songs?

Byrne: It’s because I feel different ways at different times from day to day.

Harrison: They’re little statements and feelings he has, rather than trying to get rid of all of them and make up one statement he can always live with.

Tina Weymouth: We’re a very modern band.
