Chapter Seventeen

Mila digs in her bag for clean clothes and blows out a frustrated breath. Grey comes up behind her, “What’s the matter, my love?”

Mila smiles rolling her eyes, “Nothing to wear.”

“Not to worry, I’ll get you whatever you need once we’re out of here.” He assures her.

“Do you really think we can trust him?” Mila ticks her head toward the main room where Angus is.

“To a point.” Grey zips his suitcase. “Angus and I have been friends for a long time, he’s never betrayed me, but then again, the price has never been right.”

“Where are we going to go?” She asks slinging her bag over her shoulder.

Grey takes the bag from her, “Right now, I want to focus on getting out of Atlanta with little to no incident.” He takes her into his arms, “Then we find your mother.”

A breath hitches in Mila’s throat, “My mother?”

Grey nods smiling, leading her by the hand toward the door. “Yes, we’re going to find her.”

“How did you…” She trails off watching his confident movements, falling deeper for him with every step he takes. “Hera?”

“Yes,” he confirms then continues, “Speaking of people we shouldn’t trust, she makes the list.”

Mila stops in place wanting to defend Hera. “Hera would never betray me.”

“I think you are mistaken,” Grey says with a solemn lilt in his tone. “We’ll talk in the car. But let’s get a move on.”

Mila knows he’s right, Hera was going to take her back home. She wonders if she ever had any intention of really looking for her mother, or if this was just a patronizing vacation for her.

Angus paces the living room floor when they come in. “What’s taking you two so long.”

“I had to pack,” Grey says coolly.

“You might have moved a little faster.” Angus scowls looking out the window. “They’re here.”

“I know,” Grey says moving toward the window. He steps out onto the balcony curling his lip in disgust, “I can smell them.”

Banging on the door draws Mila’s attention, she looks to Grey, “What are we going to do?”

“Do you trust me?” Grey asks wrapping his arm around her waist.

“Of course I do.” She says.

“Then hold on.” Grey pulls her tighter in and looks at Angus, “I’ll see you next time.”

“Hopefully there won’t be a next time.” Angus shakes his head.

Grey nods and effortlessly leaps over the balcony. Mila holds tight, she trusts him, but jumping from this height is a little daunting for her. She would’ve preferred phasing out.

They land in front of the valet stand startling William. “Professor Grey.”

“William, my keys?” He asks taking a twenty dollar bill from his pocket.

William surrenders the keys with shaky hands. “Thank you, sir, I hope you enjoyed your stay.”

“It was delightful as always.” Grey unlocks the car with the keyfob, opens the door for Mila and helps her into the car.

Mila watches as he puts the bags in the trunk and joins her in the front seat, his speed is impressive, nothing but a flash of movement and they are already on the road.
