Make the tablecloth

1. Hem your chosen tablecloth fabric.

2. Sew a decorative trim around the edges of the hemmed tablecloth as you desire. When choosing a decorative trim, do remember it will need to survive a good washing.

Appliqué the place settings

1. First decide how many place settings you require. Put the tablecloth on your table and decide roughly where each will go.

2. Use a dinner plate to cut the number of plates you require from the floral print fabric. For each place setting, cut a spoon, fork and knife blade from white dot fabric, and two fork/spoon handles and one knife handle from the red dot fabric (see Templates).

3. Working with fusible webbing (see Get Ready to Stitch) and following the photograph, appliqué each plate and cutlery set in place with blanket stitch. Small circles cut from the background of the floral print fabric can be used to ‘join’ the cutlery handles.

4. Using the smaller tea plate, mark a circle in the middle of the appliqué plate, and blanket stitch around the marked outline.
