DON’T GET PUFFED UP

Although all people are prone to pride, training in biblical scholarship can aggravate our hubris all the more. We are taught to look critically at other scholars’ methodologies, arguments, and conclusions, and we can become professional cynics, doubting everything and questioning everyone. Although there is a role for these things in scholarship, we should do them in meekness and with kindness. Our conceit, however, can hinder us from being gracious to one another.
