Peyton drove down a near deserted two-lane road. On her left and right were fields as far as the eye could see. One looked like it had sections that had recently been tilled, while another looked like an orchard with row upon row of trees on the cusp of budding. Beyond the fields, the charcoal monoliths of the front range rose in jagged formation, their peaks still coated with snow and glaciers.

In the backseat of her car, she had an overnight bag packed with everything she might need: pajamas, a change of clothes, her face cream, and deodorant. She was spending the night at Colin’s house.

She couldn’t stop the fluttering in her belly at the thought of him. Yesterday had been beyond intense. She’d never known sex could be that way. With Colin, she had climaxed with a partner more than she’d ever thought possible. It was as if he had made it his mission in life to make her climax nightly. As the CEO of two companies, she bet he had it noted in his daily calendar: Make Peyton climax.

She giggled at the thought of him checking it off his list each day.

They were damn near a religious experience.

He’d spent the night. She had woken this morning, wrapped in his arms, safe and warm. And it was the damndest thing, but her heart had quivered. There were no longer merely cracks in the armor around her heart, she had the Grand Canyon motherload of gaps. He was important to her, deeply so. Every kiss and caress, every effort he put in as he wooed her, challenged her rigidly held beliefs about love and romance.

Because truthfully, he had been romancing her. Even though she tried to play it off like he wasn’t when it was obvious. He was doing it bluntly, in her face, daily, proving time and time again that romance was real. He was making it harder and harder with every glance, every word, and each caress, for her to remain unaffected by his romancing efforts.

Hell, who was she kidding?

Colin affected the hell out of her. The wave of creativity she had been riding could be placed soundly on his head. He’d become her muse. She had feelings for him. Those dastardly little buggers were making her reconsider all her beliefs on what was possible.

In a short span of time, she had become rather obsessed with him. It would have wigged her out if he wasn’t just as obsessed with her.

Because he was right there with her in that department. He’d woken her up this morning by entering her, making lazy morning love to her before she had even had a sip of coffee.

He’d left shortly after with errands to run before she came to stay tonight at his place. It had taken some convincing on her part that it would be easier if she drove to his house instead of him picking her up.

She figured it was the whole Dom need for control thing.
