I hit the seventh month today. The beginning of my last trimester and the homestretch of my pregnancy. In the past two weeks, Joel had spoiled me rotten. After I’d fallen asleep on the recliner two or ten times, he purchased another and had it placed right next to his so he could be next to me. The nursery we’d put off putting together was finally complete. We’d decided to wait to find out what the baby’s sex was and therefore, anything blue or pink was out. However, I grew panicky about it not being done so Mom and my sister helped me choose a blend of soft yellows, soothing greens, and warm cream tones for the nursery. My little girl or boy had the room most parents would be envious of. A top of the line crib. A changing table brimming with all the essentials and amenities. The softest blankets. A closet filled with clothes. Stuffed animals as far as the eye could see, and my favorite part of the room. A rocking chair where I planned on spending many nights rocking them to sleep. They'd have everything they could possibly want or need.

My favorite of my husband’s ‘treats’ were the weekly prenatal massages he’d talked me into. Those weekly massages turned out to be my favorite thing ever, especially since I ran into Carissa last week. I had just finished with my appointment, feeling loose and limber like jelly. Carissa had been on her way in. She’d surprised me with the announcement that she was newly pregnant with her second child and that she and her husband had recently purchased a home here in Chicago since they were here so often for work. Carissa gushed over my tummy while I congratulated her. We’d gotten to talking so much that her masseuse came out to remind her that she was late for her appointment. Giggling, we said goodbye and promised to talk later. All that led up to the here and now.

Carissa and I had met up for lunch at L’Orangerie, a quaint French bistro that had been featured in an edition of Delicious Eats. Carissa and I sipped on cool, slightly tangy, sweet blueberry lemonades while we waited for our food to arrive.

“Being pregnant looks really good on you,” Carissa said honestly with a smile.

“You too,” I answered back because it did. Carissa was positively glowing whether it be from happiness, the surge of pregnancy hormones, or both.

“How’s your pregnancy been? I know you had some difficulty with what happened at that balloon festival. My husband’s associate thought it was the funniest thing and then thought it was wise to not only show us the video, but howl with laughter afterwards. Needless to say, he was immediately informed that I did not find him laughing at my best friend funny. It’s also needless to say that that man no longer is associated with my husband.”

God, love this woman. Even though I’d started out hating her guts, Carissa had become one of the best friends I’d ever had.
