06-22-06 Vancouver Canada: 2348 hrs. I didn’t sleep last night for longer than an hour. I don’t know why I couldn’t sleep. I got out of bed around 0530 hrs. and wrote up the last of the IFC stuff and sent it in. I did a 12 hour day on the film.

I think I have over done it on the running. It’s hard not to run every day. I really like it but I have developed a great case of shin splints on my left leg that hurts like a bastard. I can take a lot of pain and am used to my body letting me down but this pain is extraordinary. It makes me yell out loud. So, I will have to cool it on the running for some time. I’ll hit the bike to keep myself breathing hard.

Of course today with my knee ringing with pain, I had to do a lot of uphill running. I had arrows shot at me and an axe hit a tree next to my face. It was all really cool but hurt like a bastard to get up those hills quickly and not limp. Sometimes our director would ask if I had another one in me and I would tell him that I was good to do another 100 takes. It’s true. There’s no way I’m not going to kill in every scene for our director Joe. When I was doing the actual running and whatever else, there was no pain. It was after the take where the pain was substantial. It’s alright though, I got the shots he wanted and we got through the day. Even if I didn’t like him as much as I do, I would always give the director what the director wants. Whenever I am on a film, I always strive to make sure the director and producer know they got the right person for the job. Can’t let them down.

I have done quite a lot of films for someone who isn’t an actor. On a few occasions, I have seen an actor dial in the performance or be too cool to really give all and it’s absolute torture to be trapped in a film with them. That’s what has made this film so great to work on—everyone is so full on and trying to get the best takes possible, from the cast to the crew. It’s been great. If I could be in more working environments like this on films, I would go after more parts. I hate auditions. I hate hanging out in waiting rooms with people as we line up to go in and read lines to a casting agent. That being said, if work like this was guaranteed on the other end, I would put myself through that agony more often.

I have to get up in a few hours. Since I didn’t really sleep last night, I am going to try for at least 5-6 hours tonight. I have a lot of work to do until next Friday when I wrap out of this film.
