Chapter 10

My eyes widened as Chrysanthia and Malía stepped through the shadows. Spotlights immediately illuminated them and followed as they walked to me. Screams blared through my mind but were garbled mumbles from my closed mouth. Stop this, Chrysanthia! Malía! It’s a fail-safe! The Order will see! They’ll see everything! As they approached, seeing their attire in high-definition relief made me struggle against the inability to move. Malía wore a long wool coat tailored to her petite frame. Buttoned up to the chin with a royal seal on the left breast. Fur adorned the edges. Her footsteps clipped on the concrete against her short heels. Her long skirt dragged behind her with such elegance that I stopped struggling to admire her beauty. Chrysanthia wore a beige corset, elevating her breasts, and a long brown wool skirt with a hem down to her feet.

Confusion stuttered my brain. Theo told me stories about Malía marrying into a royal family centuries ago. He said it was for an alliance. If I could move my mouth, it would drop open in shock. Chrysanthia must have been time-splitting and took Malía with her. It was extraordinary and terrifying all at once that Chrysanthia’s abilities were so evolved even in the seventeenth century.

Once Chrysanthia and Malía stood in front of me, Malía’s whispered question was easier to hear, “She is our little sister?” Her voice lilted like Chrysanthia’s. Malía studied me with so much intensity that a blanket of tension fell heavily on my shoulders.

Chrysanthia nodded while placing her palm gently on my forehead and closed her eyes. “Yes, by way of Evita.”

Malía shook her head with narrowed eyes. “What do you see?” Malía's demanding tone made my hackles go up.

Chrysanthia slit open an eye to stare at Malía. “I’m sorry, is the process of looking into the future not swift enough for you?” Malía scoffed and then waved her hand at me and Chrysanthia. Chrysanthia closed her eyes and after a moment Malía cleared her throat. “I see Liam. I finally see the rest of the vision.” Chrysanthia’s voice sounded elated, while Malía studied me with a crinkled forehead. “He will be a powerful witch.” I stared at Chrysanthia in abject horror, willing my body to move. Chrysanthia’s eyes moved rapidly underneath her closed eyelids while nodding slightly to herself.

Malía stared at me but addressed Chrysanthia, “Is he the key to ending the war?”

Chrysanthia furrowed her brows and then opened her eyes. “No. He’s just a part of the bigger picture. The Order will make their virus and it will destroy a large part of the human and hybrid population, but Liam will know how to make the antidote.” My mind screamed, No Chrysanthia! She closed her eyes again. “This virus will make humans feral with a need to infect others of their kind and kill ours.” Chrysanthia opened her eyes. “The Order will make strides in exterminating our species.”

Chrysanthia breathed out a long sigh. “Mind control will not work on them.” She trailed off and her forehead creased.
