Chapter 10

When Rose woke it was bright. Not, “aliens have abducted me and—wait, what’s that feeling in my ass?” bright, but bright like “why the fuck didn’t I turn off the lights last night?” bright.

And then Rose remembered why.

Vivian was still curled into her side, hands wrapped around her waist and hair tangled with Rose’s against their pillows.

She was also naked.

Yeah, that was why.

She remembered everything—the bar, the kiss, the sex, the not wanting to get up and turn off the light switch because Vivian was warm and soft and naked next to her and they were both tired from all the sex.

All the great sex.

Rose didn’t regret a minute of it and hoped Vivian felt the same way, but it wouldn’t surprise her if her boss and bed companion experienced a morning-after freak. They’d been drinking last night. Not a lot, but not a little either, and because Vivian was fun when she was tipsy didn’t mean she wasn’t going to revert back to her old stuck-up self the morning after.

Maybe she wouldn’t remember? Maybe she’d be angry and think Rose coerced her while she was in a drunken state?

If Rose could manage to slip out of bed without Vivian noticing… A kiss on the lips hit her like a smack to the face. Rose was so blindsided by it that she could only let instinct take over, pucker her lips and kiss back until Vivian pulled away, leaving her wide-eyed and stunned.

Apparently, Vivian was fun the morning after, too. She had a nice glow about her, brighter than the hotel room lights or the sunshine filtering through the window.

Yeah, she definitely didn’t regret last night.

“Do you always kiss the girls the morning after?” Rose asked.

Vivian shrugged. “If they’re as cute as I remember them from the night before.”

“So you think I’m cute?”

Vivian chewed her bottom lip and smiled down at Rose from where she was propped up on her side. “You’re not bad.”

“Whatever.” Rose rolled her eyes. “I’m hot and you know it.”

“Didn’t say you weren’t.”

Rose hummed in contentment. “Your hangover isn’t too bad, is it?” she asked, concerned.

“Don’t have one.”

“Really?”

“I told you I wasn’t drunk last night.”

“No, I guess you weren’t.” Rose was relieved. This morning was not going the way she expected it to, and Rose liked this alternative much better.

“How’s your hangover?” Vivian asked, an equal amount of worry in her voice.

“I wasn’t drunk either.”

It wasn’t a lie, but she hadn’t exactly been sober. Her skull was pounding a little, but the headache plaguing her could just as likely have been the result of sleeping with all the lights on. Or a symptom of caffeine withdrawal.

“Do you want coffee?” Rose asked, noticing the scratchy fuzziness of her tongue. She hoped her mouth hadn’t been too gross when Vivian kissed her. She guessed not by the way Vivian kissed her again.

“Yes. I’ll get it.” Vivian pulled the sheets off of her and stood, leaving Rose lonely and cold.

Rose was glad she didn’t have to do the work.
