Where did you find these people?” Rafael asks. “And why did you bring them here?”

I shake my head. “I didn’t bring them here, obviously. Look at them! Ms. Tremt is a time traveler. Yesterday she let me and Patrick McMann use her magic time-travel portal, and we visited one of Captain Kidd’s pirate ships. We were almost killed when he made us walk the plank, but we escaped with our lives.”

Rafael sighs. “Not that again.”

“Yes,” I insist. “That again. But then there was another time traveler chasing us on the way home, and he made us land in a bunch of different times, like Ancient Egypt. And I sort of snuck home Ms. Tremt’s Book of Memories and left it on my desk last night so I could show you and prove that everything I’ve been saying is true, and then, I think the time-traveler guy snuck into my room and opened the book last night and let these guys in.”

Rafael sits up and scratches his head. The Viking has one of Rafael’s large Lego models in his hand and he’s dangling it from his fingers like bait on a fishhook.

“Be gentle with that!” Rafael yells. The Viking ignores him.

I hand Rafael the other nano scarf I still had from yesterday. “Put this on. It’s a nano-scarf. It’ll help them understand you, and you’ll be able to understand them.”

“A nano what? I’ve got to be dreaming,” Rafael says. “Or, you are the worst little brother.”

“You’re not dreaming,” I reply. “Listen, I’ve got to make some breakfast for Tut, because he’s a really bossy guy, and you need to call Patrick McMann and tell him to get over here and help. We need to get rid of these people and still make it to school on time. Okay?”

Rafael climbs out of bed. “There’s no way this is happening, especially this furry scarf thing, but okay. Hey—Tut, get off my phone. Yeah, that’s mine. Put it down.”

Tut ignores him, and Rafael begrudgingly wraps on the scarf. Then he yells at everyone again, only this time they sort of obey.

“Watch the Viking and Charlie,” I tell him. “And call Patrick.”

Motioning for Tut to follow me, I head downstairs. As I open the fridge to see what we have, I heard a huge bang and thud upstairs.

“Off my drum set, Viking! No, off of it!” Rafael yells. “Luis! Hurry!”

I sigh. I’m going to be in a lot of trouble if I live through this.

“I’m starving,” Tut complains for the fiftieth time. He gestures at all of the food in the fridge: chicken, cheese, ketchup, some yogurt, leftover meat loaf. “I don’t like any of that. Cook something else.”

“Fine,” I say. “Just sit down.” I open up the freezer to see what’s in there and find a box of frozen pizza pockets. Perfect. I spread them out on a tray, and put it in the microwave. Raf and I can have them for breakfast too.

“Don’t move,” I tell Tut, settling him at the table and handing him two slices of bread to gnaw on.
