Leaning against the door frame, I watched Natalie. She was staring out the window, bathed in the moonlight, her silky white hair cascading down her back.

She hadn’t said a word since we left Fate’s home and arrived at mine. But I could see that she needed some space. I wanted to offer her comfort, but I also didn't want to say the wrong thing. Try as I might, I couldn't imagine how she was feeling.

What was it like to be told your body didn’t belong to you anymore, that there was something else inside you that could take over at any time?

I wanted more than anything to take away Natalie's pain, but I couldn't. Right now, all I could do was be here for her and provide a haven for her where there would be no prying eyes or anything to trigger her rage.

Only Lucian and I, along with Brian and Rehema, were allowed to be around Natalie. The gods, in their infinite wisdom (yeah, right…), still wanted no one else to know what was happening.

Since Natalie would be staying here, Lucian needed to be close, too. So we came up with a solution. He’d come and go as he pleased and would sleep here whenever he felt like it.

I wished my mother was awake to see this. She’d never believe it. Never in a thousand years did I see myself setting foot inside his home, or allowing him in mine.

But Lucian had his own room in my home, as did Rehema and Brian.

I understood how important it was for Natalie to have him close by, so I put aside my own reservations. Given the circumstances, I didn’t see any other options. Besides, if it had been the other way around and she had stayed at his place, nothing could have kept me away.

That aside, I was still trying to wrap my brain around what Fate had done.

From the first time I'd seen Natalie, I'd known she was my everything. At first, I'd been livid about her being with Lucian as well, and a part of me for a time had hoped she'd reject him.

But all along, Lucian had been her true mate and I, the impostor.

I left the room, closing the door before turning to Myleon, my robotic butler.

“Keep an eye on her and give her whatever she wants. But she’s not to leave this house without Lucian or me. Rehema and Brian won’t be returning tonight.”

They’d already stopped by and were told everything we’d discovered. But Natalie had been unable to speak about it and had retired to her room early. Rehema had been so upset about what was happening to her friend, Brian had to take her home. Everyone was losing it right now.

Our worlds were crumbling. And it looked as if we could do nothing to stop it.

Myleon bowed, his golden body bending at the waist. “Yes, sir.”

"Call me if anything happens. I'm going out. Lucian is in his room, I think, or roaming the halls of the house.
