Another Reminder Book about School

Isaak is in kindergarten! He is making lots of new friends and learning lots of great things. He loves school. Here are some things to remember that will help him continue to have a wonderful year.

Resolve conflicts

Sometimes I have a conflict with a friend in class or on the playground. I can do lots of things to resolve the conflict. I can try to talk calmly to the other kid. I can talk to a teacher. If I feel angry, I can stop and count to ten or sing a song. I can always just walk away. I should never hit, kick, bite, or pull hair. I don’t want to hurt my friends. It’s so much more fun to get along! If I remember to resolve my conflict calmly, my parents and my teachers will be very proud of me.

Waiting in line

There are lots of times at school that I have to wait in line. Sometimes it’s to go to recess. Sometimes it’s to go to art class or music class. Sometimes it’s to show my work to my teacher. I need to remember to wait patiently and quietly for my turn. I will keep my hands to myself. I will stay in line the whole time and not wander away to do something else. If I do these things, I will get to do the next thing quicker, and I will have a great time!

Taking tests

At school, sometimes I have to take tests. My reading tests are very important. They help me learn things. When I read my book, I will remember to read slowly and pay attention to everything the book says. Then, when I take the test, I will read each question carefully, think of the answer, then select the answer on the computer. I will remember to go slowly and think about my answers well. If I do that, I will do better on the test; maybe even get a 100 percent! It feels good to do well.

Eating lunch

I love lunchtime! Some days I get to eat hot lunch. When I get hot lunch, I need to eat as much as I can so my tummy will be full. I don’t want to be hungry later. Many days, I take cold lunch. When I eat cold lunch, I can eat all the lunch I want at one time and save all my garbage in my lunchbox. Then, when I’m all done, I can throw away all my garbage together. That way, I only have to go to the garbage one time.

Paying attention

Sometimes I have to listen with lots of other kids to the teacher or other kids. I should pay attention and listen to whoever is speaking because it might be important for me! Sometimes, it’s not something I understand or am interested in, but I still need to look at the speaker and try to listen. This is polite. If I have something to say, I will raise my hand and wait to be called on.
