BO the following number of sts, then knit to end:

Knit 1 row, and at the same time, use the knitted method (see Notes) to CO the following number of sts over the gap formed in previous row:

Note: To make it easier to work the knitted CO, turn the work so the needle onto which you are working the CO sts is temporarily in your left hand. CO the required number of sts, then turn the work again to return the needle with the new sts to your right hand. As an option, you may also CO directly onto the right-hand needle without turning, using the backward loop method, but the CO edge of the thumb slit will not resemble the BO edge as closely as it will when using the knitted method.
