Résumé: Water generally reacts to electromagnetic waves and stores them for some time. We were also able to verify the effect that electromagnetic radiation has on water in plants and in the human body (blood, saliva). Even weak effects show up in the drop image, even when they are only indirectly transmitted by a plant (lettuce) on water.

4 Water “hears” music and ultrasonics

Mechanical waves make an imprint, too

We are well acquainted with electromagnetic waves – they are used in alternating current, cell phone radio, radio and TV broadcasts. They can be imagined as transversal oscillations. Like a cork floating on water into which a stone has been thrown, the particles move up and down which the wave spreads horizontally. Due to its electrical polarity, such effects are not really surprising in water.

There is also the great range of sound waves in the air, in liquids and in solid bodies. These, however, are compression waves and appear as longitudinal waves in gases and liquids. For example, the volume of air is compressed and depressurised, and the wave moves in the direction of the particle motion. We use these waves with our ears for communication, the frequencies then are between 16 Hz and 20 000 Hz. The standard pitch is at 440 Hz. Of all waves the human body is exposed to we find the ultrasonic range of interest. It lies between 16 kHz and 1 GHz, above the human ability to hear. We all know dog whistles which emit ultrasonics that a dog but not its owner can hear.
