As I pulled off the highway to head toward my house, I waited for her to answer my question. She was incredibly easy to talk to, and even when we hit serious or embarrassing topics, nothing turned awkward or uncomfortable.

"Last boyfriend was about a year ago. Last date was tonight," she said, winking. "But before this, about a month ago. The last time I had sex was about two months ago. I’ve been busy lately."

I let go of her hand to grip the steering wheel fully again so I wouldn’t accidentally swerve off the road.

"Shit, if you think two months is long, you might be horrified that it’s been four years for me. Maybe lower your expectations for how tonight might go since I’m a bit rusty." I hesitated before quickly adding, "Please don’t jump out of my car because of this."

"Four years? Wow. And here I thought I was honored to be your first date in three."

"You don’t care it’s been so long?"

"Do you remember how to make a woman orgasm?"

"Yes?"

"You don’t sound super confident there, buddy. Don’t worry. I’ll tell you what I like."

I relaxed my grip on the steering wheel and exhaled a long breath. Okay. We would make this work. Suddenly, I really wanted to make this work and have it be good for her.
