“Where are we going?” I yell over the roar of the open throttle. Zander’s eyes trained on the road ahead.

Maintaining his quiet composure his left hand leaves the handle and grabs my hands around his waist, and he squeezes them as he revs the bike, and we jolt forward. We slow down and pull into a parking garage. He pulls his into one of the slots designed for the bikes. Cutting the engine, he gets up and reaches to grab the helmet.

Jumping back, I grab the buckle. “I got it.”

Shrugging his shoulders, he stands there as I undo the buckle and slide it off my head. His hands come up and smooth my hair. He can’t be serious right now. One second, he doesn’t care what I do, and now he is standing here smoothing my hair.

“Come on,” he says, strapping the helmet to the bike.

I didn’t even realize he took it from me. I follow him as he steps into an elevator feet away from where his bike is.

“Care to tell me what you were doing at the club?” he releases the second the doors shut.

Taking a deep breath in, I deadpan, “Not in an elevator.”

“Mhmm,” he releases and stares at his reflection in the elevator doors. My eyes equally staring at his reflection.

The elevator dings, and he steps out. Following closely, I notice we are in the penthouse apartment. Glancing around, I see an original brick wall in the living room next to ceiling to floor windows overlooking Chicago. There is an island that separates the living room and the kitchen.

The area is decorated in dark browns and blacks with gold accents. The living room has a massive tv in it and a large black leather sectional. The only hint of decorator is the throw blanket tossed on the back of the couch. I swear this living room has been in a magazine once.

Turning to see more. I am met with Zander standing in the kitchen, his hands on the island. His eyes are glued to me. “Now that we are somewhere private, care to tell me what you were doing at the club?”

“I could ask you the same thing,” I release as I make my way to the island.

He straightens his back. “I was there to get Arden laid.”

“Oh, so you dicking him down doesn’t always keep him satisfied?” I maintain eye contact, and I slide into one of the stools lining the island. “Good to know.”

Zander scoffs. “Not that it is any of your business, but Arden needed someone else to get his mind off you.”

“Oh see, now I’m offended.” My hand shoots up to my chest. My best puppy dog eyes impression slapped across my face.

Zander reaches across the bar and grips my neck. “This attitude you have all the time is going to get Arden killed one day. I refuse to sit and watch it happen. He needs to move on.”

Rolling my eyes, I wiggle out of his grip and turn to make my way deeper into the apartment.
