Chapter Seven Putting It Out There

Allison took off to the side and around the building. Across the white line on the marina road drove a blue compact car she knew the owner of. Christy, the newest investigator who had yet to solve a case. Did she set the fire? Inside the back window were signs. Protestor signs.

Thecarwas gone before anythingcould bedoneand thefirewas a moreprevalent need atthemoment.

All the paintings were ruined. Gone. Forever.

The girl drove towards the flames with some intention he didn't harbor to guess. He couldn't figure her intentions for anything but he wouldn't let her burn the rest down. Seeing her scramble to the side not wasted by ash and blue flames made him angrier. “What do you think you are doing?”

He practically screamed monster, but she didn't hesitate. “I am trying to help you, Millson. Where is the fire line?”

“It is none of your business, tak. No one can get in. Take your happy butt the hell out here.”

“The fire line, Millson. Oh, to heck with it.” She jumped feet first into the open door towards the smoke filled open area where the first paintings were. In animal form, she could hear and see clearer. Hearing him scream at her more, she purged herself towards the five open boxes she’d memorized the contents of. Five in her jaw and heading back out, her lungs were about done. When she emerged the man was no longer in vampire mode, but something else. A basket-case. She pulled on her clothes the best she could before jumping out the door frame, but her skirt was shredded, what little there was of it.

“What? That was three minutes. You can't be alive.” The man attacked like a bullet. Grabbing her shoulders he screamed every curse available to the English language then moved on to his native tongue.

“Or maybe telling time is an issue for you too. Like your other less amiable qualities, it hinders your judgment.” With her hands full of his prized possessions, Allison couldn't be the sass she wanted. So…”Here. You’re welcome.”

Forced to take a step back to handle the artwork correctly, he didn't guess her next move. His rigid anger wasn't letting up. “Now, while you stand here and rant about what all I do wrong, I will go save another round of your treasure. Is that okay with you, psycho boy?”

Allison didn't give time to argue. Seven more including the handheld nudes she thought were the most interesting of the lot, she sprinted away towards where he rooted his vampire butt to the safe zone, but found herself alone. She guessed quickly vampires and fire don't mix, but cats have extra sensory abilities and Allison always reacted faster in cat form. She called it her sixth sense. “If I’d known I was going back in for dirty pictures I’d have refrained.” He wasn't there this time, not left or right. Panicking that he might be hurt by going into the fire to save her, she screamed his name. Over and over.
