25: When the drawer is dry, clean off in the joint areas. Try it in the drawer opening. Adjust for a good sliding fit.

26: Fit the drawer stops as shown—it is easier to do this before fitting the top.

27: Make or buy a knob for the drawer. Drill a tight hole for the shaft and glue it into place. Secure with a wedge.

28: You can now fit the top. Using “buttons” is the usual method of doing this. They screw to the top but are held in grooves in the side rails and are free to slide in order to allow for any movement of the wood. The step of the button should be slightly less than the distance between the groove and the rail edge in order to keep the top pulled downward. Make sure the screws are not too long. Fit two buttons at each end and two along each side.
