Does God Speak through Dreams?

I slept a little bit and woke up feeling refreshed. I went to meet my family for lunch.

During lunch, Steve randomly asked me if I had the phone number for a gentleman we know at our church.

I said, “No, I don’t have his number.”

“Well, you need to call him,” Steve said.

“Why do I need to call him?” I asked. It seemed like a strange request.

“You just need to call him,” Steve persisted.

“Why don’t you call him? What’s this about?”

“I’m not telling you. You just need to talk to him,” he said.

“Okay.” I was chuckling because I didn’t understand what this was all about. It was unusual for Steve to ask me to call a guy from church for no apparent reason. I tried my very best to get him to explain, but he wasn’t budging. I couldn’t get Lindy or Danielle to tell me either. They had evidently been with Steve at the church when he ran into this gentleman.

“Lauren, can you get his number from Michael?” I asked. (Michael later became Lauren’s husband.)

Lauren got the number and gave it to me. As we were leaving, I said, “Steve, what’s this about? I’m not leaving until you tell me.”

“Well, I’ll see you at home, then.” He laughed.

There I stood in the parking lot by my car, laughing and trying to figure out what was going on with my husband.

This is crazy, I thought.

I got in my car and made the call.

“Hey, Jackie, Steve wanted me to tell you what we talked about at church today. I know this is going to sound crazy.”

“Great! He wouldn’t tell me what you discussed. What’s this about?”

“Now, listen,” he said. “I was raised in a Baptist church, and I don’t know much about the whole ‘word from the Lord’ kind of thing. I’m new to this, but I felt I was supposed to tell you guys something, and I didn’t know how you would receive it. But when I ran into Steve after church, I knew I had to say something.”

He continued, “You guys sit in the balcony and I sit on the floor level, and we don’t typically see each other on Sunday morning. But today as I got out of my seat, I turned around, and there was Steve walking down the aisle right toward me. I knew God wanted me to tell you guys this.

“Last week in my Bible study, I felt like God was saying, ‘There’s a blessing for Steve and Jackie in China,’ so whatever you’re doing, keep doing it.”

I could hardly believe what I was hearing.

God gave me the clarity I had asked for just a few hours before. I knew at that moment we were moving forward with adoption.

He continued, “I don’t understand it, but I just knew that I was supposed to tell you guys.”

“You know what?” I replied. “I understand it. Did Steve tell you what we did yesterday?”

“Yes, he told me you guys went to a workshop and that he filled out an application.
