see you approve of prayer,” Britt Claiborne said to Lee and Kathy Beiden.

“Of course,” Lee said.

“I’m glad for that.” Britt turned back to the Parkers. “Like I said, I know the Lord will bless your unselfishness in giving up this choice piece of land to the Beldens.”

“I’m sure He will,” Craig said, “but we didn’t do it for that reason. We did it because we believed it was the right thing to do.”

“I don’t doubt that for a moment.” Britt paused and seemed to be pondering an idea. “I just thought of something. I know of a parcel of land a mile or so to the southwest of here. It has lots of trees and bushes, as well as plenty of farmland. Maybe it hasn’t been claimed yet. I’ve got to head back to my office soon, but Cherokee Rose and I will take you there, if you’d like.”

Craig and Gloria looked at each other and nodded, then Craig said, “We accept your invitation, Chief.”

“Would you do us a favor?” Lee said to the Parkers. “Come by and let us know if that section you’re going to have a look at works out. We’d like to know.”

Craig nodded. “We’ll do that.” With that, he and Gloria headed toward their wagon.

Britt and Cherokee Rose had a few whispered words between them, then stepped up close to the Beldens. “Would you folks come to our church next Sunday? Our pastor is a full-blooded Cherokee, and he’s a wonderful preacher. You would really enjoy hearing him.”

Lee cleared his throat. “Well, I can’t promise that we’ll be there next Sunday, but we’ll come sometime soon.”

“You can’t miss the church building,” Britt said. “When you drive into town, the steeple with the cross on it is higher than anything else in Tahlequah. Sunday school is at ten o’clock, and the preaching service is at eleven.”

“All right,” Lee said with a smile. “We’ll get there as soon as we can.”

Some twenty minutes later, the Claiborne and Parker wagons came to a halt on the 160 acres of land Britt had in mind. He pointed to a spot on the ground and said, “Well, there’s no claim stake there.”

“Oh, honey, I really like this place,” Gloria said, taking a panorama from the wagon seat. “It’s beautiful!”

“If you want to ride in our wagon with us, we’ll take you on a quick tour so you can get a good look at it,” Britt said.

Soon the Parkers were on the seat of the Claiborne wagon with Cherokee Rose and Gloria sandwiched between their husbands. Britt put the horses to a steady trot and drove around the entire 160 acres so the Parkers could get a good look at it. There were many comments from the Parkers about the lay of the land, the patches of trees, the rich-looking soil, and the number of grassy knolls that dotted the acreage.

When they returned to the Parker wagon and Britt pulled rein, Gloria said, “Oh, I love it! It’s a great piece of land.
