Chapter 19

Dream Lover

The dream lover meditation is designed to increase your awareness of your sensuality and sexuality. When your sexual/ sensual energy is open and clear, you’ll naturally experience and enjoy life more fully. You can use this meditation during your waking hours or just before sleep as a means of programming your dreams for sensual encounters.

My initial attempts at creating a lover in my dreams were less than the sizzling trysts I’d anticipated. My first dream lover was a pale, withdrawn, and insipid lad who looked about 21 years old (although he whiningly sought to convince me he was much older). This was definitely not what I had in mind, and I terminated the dream. My endeavor the following night centered around a robust, burly man (not my type, but a definite improvement over the spindly teenager) with a noticeable bulge in his trousers. Fortunately, with my dream “x—ray eyes,” I could see the oversized potato he’d stuck in his trousers in the hope of luring me to his bed. I again made a hasty retreat. My next attempt was a dark,

foreboding shadow of a presence who tried to force his attentions on me. Foiled again!

My fourth dream lover, finally, was a success. The dream was set in 18th—century Italy. This lover was neither too young nor too old. He possessed all the correct physical equipment. He was strong, kind, and romantic. He was perfect! I even met his entire passionate Catholic family. He then informed me that we couldn’t make love until we were married, and our wedding wouldn’t occur until his older brother had gotten married.

At least this last dream gave me a clue as to why I was having so many difficulties obtaining a desirable dream lover. My upbringing was making it unacceptable on a subconscious level for me to take a lover (any lover, including a dream one) because I was already married. While discussing the situation with my husband, David, he told me that he’d always had dream lovers and felt that they were important for his own sense of well—being. In short, he encouraged me in my nightly endeavors. So I intensified my efforts! After a few more feeble encounters, it definitely became worth the effort, and I strongly recommend it. One immediate benefit was that my dream escapades greatly enhanced the sexual relations I had with my husband.

Often men and women secretly desire to have an affair, not necessarily because they’re experiencing any lacking in their present relationship, but because of a desire for change or variety. Taking a dream lover (or lots of dream lovers) is one constructive way to fulfill that desire while keeping your present relationship intact. It’s also excellent for the single person, since a dream lover can appease the compulsive need to be with a partner. Consequently, you can be more empowered in your selection of a companion.

Preparation for Meditation

If you’re using this meditation to make a recording for yourself, or if you’re reading it to another person, first create a restful setting—phone off the hook, lights low.
