The Joy of God

Your sorrow will turn into joy.

RECENTLY, I SCHEDULED A RADIO INTERVIEW for the Monday right after the Thanksgiving weekend. But I didn’t write the appointment down in my calendar. Over the holiday, I forgot about it. Before going to bed on Monday night, I looked down at my phone and noticed I received three missed calls from Minneapolis, where the station was located. Then it hit me. “Oh, no, I missed the radio interview today!” Forgetting appointments like this prompts me to wonder if I am slowly heading toward Alzheimer’s like my mom.

I’d been on Bill Arnold’s show many times (Faith Radio), but I still felt really bad. The truly sad thing is that I have greatly enjoyed each of the interviews I had done on this program before. Bill has a great sense of humor—he even laughs at my jokes (so perhaps not a great sense). We were supposed to discuss the emotions of God.

First thing Tuesday morning, I emailed Bill, apologizing, and asking for forgiveness. Then there was radio silence. No reply on Tuesday. No reply on Wednesday. I felt bad already, but now it was worse. Finally on Thursday morning, Bill responded. “Don’t worry about it. Anyone can forget something. I’m a big fan. Hey, are you free for an hour interview today?” He tacks on a PS, “Do it today.” His reply instantly took me from sorrow to joy. For an hour that afternoon, we had a delightful time talking about God’s emotions.
