JACKIE ROBINSON STORY, THE. 1950. 76 min. Biopic. This is a film autobiography on the life and times of famed baseball player Jackie Robinson, who plays himself. It goes from his college days at the University of California, Los Angeles, to breaking the color line to become the first African American to play modern-day major league baseball. He faces racism from the fans and his teammates but weathers it all to become a true hero of all people. JACKSON, EUGENE (1916-2001). Actor. As a six-year-old child star, Jackson portrayed Farina’s older brother, Pineapple, in Hal Roach’s 1920s series Our Gang, and made his feature film debut in Hearts in Dixie, 1929. He later sang and danced on the vaudeville circuit billed as “Hollywood’s Most Famous Colored Kid Star.” He continued to act, mostly in uncredited bit parts, but appeared on television as Diahann Carroll’s Uncle Lou on her series Julia, and as a friend of Redd Foxx on his series Sanford and Son. Jackson taught dance at his own studios in Compton and Pasadena, California, and his choreography was featured in a dance retrospective for the 1993 Los Angeles Festival.

JACKSON, FAY M. (1902-1979). She was the first Hollywood press correspondent for the Associated Negro Press in the 1930s, and wrote many articles on politics and the entertainment industry for the California News and the California Eagle. Jackson founded and published Flash Magazine in 1928, directed at the economic, social, and political needs of the African American community. It was the only Negro newsmagazine with a regular publishing schedule at that time. The 23 September 1929 issue included an article on “The Dilemma of the Negro Actor,” written by Clarence Muse.
JACKSON, GEORGE (1958-2000). Producer, director. A media executive in both music and film, Jackson ran Motown Records for a while, as well as Richard Pryor’s production company, Indigo Productions. He partnered with Doug McHenry to produce more than a dozen films, including New Jack City, 1991; A Thin Line Between Love and Hate, 1996; and the sequel to House Party, House Party 2: The Pajama Jam, 1991, which he also directed. He was co-executive producer of the TV comedy series Malcolm & Eddie.

JACKSON, JANET (1966- ). Singer, actress. Jackson is the youngest child born to the multi-talented family from Gary, Indiana, which produced the mega-successful singing group The Jackson 5. She performed with her brothers in Las Vegas, Nevada, when she was seven, and appeared on their television special two years later. Recognizing her immense talent, she was cast in the television sitcom Good Times, 1977-79, and Different Strokes, 1981-82.
