The Breath of Life
This exercise of shared breathing creates a bridge that exceeds the physical. As you breathe in your partner’s breath, they will inhale the breath you give and share in your power. This is known to be very erotic and should be done for 3 to 10 minutes.
Chapter 5: Difference between Tantra and Kama Sutra
Many people are under the misconception that Tantra and Kama Sutra are the same thing. This is not the case. Kama Sutra focuses on the pleasure. Tantra, on the other hand, focuses on the spiritual aspect. This misconception stems from the early days when some Tantras (Tantrikas) used the energy that was produced from sexualized group rituals to achieve enlightenment and magical powers (known as siddhis).
Tantra embraces sex as a sacred act, both inside and outside of marriage. It magnifies consciousness and releases it beyond that of our suppressive conditioning. Tantric ideology regards sexual energy as an assistant to reach full spiritual enlightenment. The word Tantra literally means to weave. Tantra is more dedicated to the seven chakras and both the physical and mental aspects of each.
Kama Sutra is an ancient Indian Sanskrit exposition that discusses the nature of love, family life, and other aspects pertaining to pleasure-oriented functions of human life. The word sutra means to teach. An example of this is modern yoga. There is a teacher who tells people which positions to do. The original Kama Sutra book was written between the second and fourth centuries ACE by Vatsyayana. In the book, he explained how to obtain a wife, what her duties and privileges were, the relations with other men’s wives, and several other aspects to daily life. Approximately 20 percent is about sexual positions. Mainly, it discusses what triggers desire, how to sustain it, and how and when it is either good or bad. According to Kama Sutra, there are four goals to life: virtuous living, prosperity through materialistic possessions, desire, and liberation. The terminology he used in the book is context specific. Sexual intercourse is called Yoga while to him, Tantra was meant as a method or technique. The word Yantra meant a dildo or some other artificial device used for lovemaking. There are no Tantrikas that are similar to Kama Sutra.
One common Kama Sutra position is the 69 position, which is oral mutual honoring. When couples engage in this at the same time, it can ignite an internal energy that explodes throughout the body. It creates an animalistic appetite that is extremely powerful. There are three variations to the 69 position.
