Nowhere.

I had nowhere to actually go in London and even if I did, I had no money to get there and my phone was about to die. Why I spontaneously decided to put myself in that position is anybody’s guess, but there I was, slugging my holdall on my back like a man that missed the statement for the mission he was on. My throat and mouth were so dry I was convinced if I didn’t lap up a whole pail of water soon I would collapse in a cloud of dust and keel over.

I managed to lose myself amongst the bustling crowd of shoppers in a small Tesco Express that opted for corner mirrors instead of CCTV. Silly fools! I shoved butties into my bag, cured meat into my inside jacket pocket, bottles of water up my sleeve, chocolate biscuits down my trousers. I stuffed at least four samosas into my trouser pockets, a couple of cakes into my jacket pockets and God knows what else, where else. As if by instinct I even stole a carton of my favourite microwaveable slop. I waddled out of the shop, arms and legs stiff like a man in an 1800s atmospheric diving suit.

At a painstakingly slow speed I pivoted my way around the corner like a clumsy robot and emptied my tracksuit bottoms so I could kneel down and investigate the rest of the loot. I disposed of the microwaveable slop and unscrewed the bottle of water with my teeth while tearing open the cured meat.

A leashed dog trotted by at eye level. I growled and turned my head with half a butty hanging from my teeth and water dribbling down my chin. I wiped my face and checked to see if the dog was gone and crammed cured meat and biscuits into my face. Coughing and spluttering as I washed it all down with water, re-energising like a computer game character.

Squeezing the leftovers into my bag, I walked and walked some more. Day made way for night, as it often does on this planet. Sometime later I got lost and found myself at a big brightly lit train station that was still open despite there being no trains running. The time on the big orange and black screen above read 01:01. A few workers were still dotted about the station in their orange jackets, nodding as they made eye contact with each other. Thankfully they ignored me as I dragged my legs in the direction of a glass waiting room on the far side of the station. The white metal bench inside would be my bed for the night. Annoyingly they had sectioned off the bench with metal armrests, stopping me from stretching out, so I would be forced to sleep upright. “If those green blurry bastards can do it, so can I!” I exclaimed to myself.

The glass door closed slowly behind me as I entered and took a seat. One of the lights in the corner opposite began to flicker, further setting the scene as I planted the back of my head against the cold white wall.
