With one of the larger circular needles and A, cast on 204 (228, 252, 276, 300, 324) stitches.
Place a marker for the beginning of the round, and join, being careful not to twist the stitches on the needle.
Begin the Rib Pattern and work even until the piece measures approximately 1½" [4cm] from the beginning, ending after Round 2 of the pattern.
Begin the Cable Pattern and work even until the piece measures approximately 16¼"/[41.5cm] from the beginning, ending after an even-numbered round.
Divide for Underarm
Bind off 20 (22, 26, 28, 30, 32) stitches for the underarm, knit across the next 82 (92, 100, 110, 120, 130) stitches, and slip them onto a holder or a length of scrap yarn for the front, bind off the next 20 (22, 26, 28, 30, 32) stitches for the underarm, knit across the next 82 (92, 100, 110, 120, 130) stitches and slip them onto a holder or a length of scrap yarn for the back.
SLEEVE (MAKE 2)
With the smaller double-pointed needles and A, cast on 60 stitches.
Divide evenly onto 3 needles. Place a marker and join, being careful not to twist the stitches on the needles.
Begin the Rib Pattern and work even until the piece measures approximately 1½" [4cm] from the beginning.
Change to the larger double-pointed needles, begin the Cable Pattern, and work 1 round of the pattern.
INCREASE ROUND: P1, M1 knitwise, work the established Cable Pattern to the last stitch, M1 knitwise, p1—62 stitches.
Continue the pattern and repeat the Increase Round every fourth round 0 (0, 0, 0, 0, 8) times, every sixth round 0 (0, 0, 11, 9, 15) times, every eighth round 0 (3, 2, 6, 8, 0) times, every tenth round 0 (8, 9, 0, 0, 0) times, every sixteenth round 1 (0, 0, 0, 0, 0) time, then every eighteenth round 4 (0, 0, 0, 0, 0) times, working new stitches into the Cable Pattern as they accumulate—72 (84, 84, 96, 96, 108) stitches.
Continue even until the piece measures approximately 17 (18, 18½, 19½, 19¾, 20)" [43 (45.5, 47, 49.5, 50, 51)cm] from the beginning, ending the last round 10 (11, 13, 14, 15, 16) stitches before the end of the round.
