Flipping Stitch Patterns

Here are two examples of charts that need to be converted to work in the opposite direction. The first is a simple V-shaped lace design. You’ll see that the lace pattern can pretty much be worked from the original chart turned upside down. Because decreases themselves are not perfectly symmetrical, the pattern is attractive but not identical worked in the opposite direction.

The second example requires a bit more tweaking to ensure that the purl background flows behind the cable ribs appropriately.

As you can see from the charts, the C4F and C4B on Round 1 of the top-down chart need to be switched to a T4F and T4B on Round 8 of the toe-up chart because of what’s happening on the next round. The same is true of the T2F/T2B on Round 1 of the top-down chart and C2F/C2B on Round 8 of the toe-up chart.
