Chapter Sixty-Two

Secret

The rest of the afternoon goes by without a hitch, including our private tutoring sessions which take place in empty classrooms. We’re right next door to each other, so even though we’re apart for the sessions, we meet back up again right after. I honestly don’t know what I’d do if Dylan wasn’t here with me. He already feels like a part of my life.

We head back to the suite, walking close but not too close.

Being careful.

We almost screwed things up in the cafeteria. It was relatively empty but there were still people around who might have seen us kiss if we’d been impulsive enough to let it happen.

People who could have reported back to Geraldine, who would have us separated because we’re individual commodities to her. Single Omegas to be given away to the right Alphas when it’s time.

Dylan unlocks the door, and we go inside.

He locks the door behind us.

“Some of those girls are definitely fraternizing with each other,” I blurt out, feeling like a gossip for saying it, even if I do have a point to make.

Dylan nods as he turns from the door to look at me. “Some of them.”

His emotions still feel closed off to me, and I can’t help wondering why he’s hiding them.

“They’re getting away with breaking the rules,” I tell him.

“I know.” His gaze moves to my lips.

His scent gets stronger, but his emotions don’t pull through.

“I want you to be the one, Dylan,” I whisper, barely able to get it out.

I drop my gaze from his. There’s only so many ways a girl can ask a guy to be her first before it starts to feel like he’s really not interested.

“You have no idea how much I want to be yours, Secret,” Dylan murmurs, as he steps closer. “But we have to be careful.”

Careful. I’m so sick of being careful.

I wanted his lips on mine in that cafeteria.

I want more than that now.

I reach out to wrap my fingers in his hair, and he practically purrs when I pull him closer by the back of his head. His emotions connect before my lips meet his. He feels desperate and full of longing, and he kisses me back as if he’s been starved of affection for half of his life.

Oh God. What have I done?

I’ve started something I can’t take back. Something I never want to take back.

In a perfect world we could be together without repercussion. I want this to be our perfect world.

“Take me to bed?” I break our kiss to ask.

His eyes flash and his breathing quickens. “Are you sure?”

Am I sure? It’s reckless, and impulsive, but it feels right.

“I’ve never been more sure of anything.”

He smiles. “Your bed or mine?”
