And no amount of thinking and imaging on my part could conceive of a method by which these tracks could have been made fictitiously.

His sister Allene and brother-in-law Harry Halbritter joined Titmus at the site. “Harry has hunted big game all of his life. He has been all over Africa, Alaska, Yukon Territory, Canada, Mexico, and the United States and stated that this impressed him more than anything he had ever seen in the bush in all of his travels. Harry made several tests and observations, one of which was to walk briskly beside the tracks to try to match their depth of up to an inch and a quarter in places. Harry is a two hundred-pounder and the best he could do was an imprint of about a quarter of an inch on the rear portion of his shoe heel, and one eighth of an inch and less on the rest of his shoe imprint. We both agreed considering the depth of the two imprints and the difference in the amount of the bearing surface that the creature that made these tracks would have to weigh at least six hundred to seven hundred pounds.”

The next summer John Green visited the site and conducted a simple and straight-forward size comparison of the Patterson-Gimlin film subject. The remains of the trackway were still evident as a series of rough depressions stretching across the sandbar. Equipped with slides from the movie he was able to relocate Patterson’s and the film subject’s approximate positions, by lining up objects through the viewfinder of a similar camera. Although inexact, this method could at least offer an indication of the estimated size of the subject. Green filmed 6′ 5-5″ Jim McClarin, a student at nearby Humboldt State University, as he retraced the path followed by the alleged sasquatch.
