Once you have creased the angle on your template, you can move back to the cutting table and easily know how to position the template on the next set of strata—be sure to make the strata parallel with the crease on the template.

CUTTING AND PLACING THE BUTTS AND WEDGIES

To square off your design, you'll need 4 butts (for corner pieces) and 8 wedgies, 4 regular and 4 reverse (for top and bottom pieces). You've already created the necessary freezer-paper templates in Creating Your Pattern (page 17), so you are ready to go.

You can cut these pieces individually, as described in the steps below, or use the quick-cutting methods outlined in the sidebar (page 27).

1. Press the freezer-paper Butt template, shiny-side down, on the right side of the fabric you've chosen for the corners of your design, aligning the right angle of the template with the straight grain of the fabric.
