The result was a rapid decline of birds of prey from the 1950s to the time the chemicals were restricted, which began in 1962. The species most affected were raptors such as Sparrowhawk and Peregrine, but many other farmland birds also suffered population declines at this time.
The natural range expansion of the Collared Dove is remarkable. It spread from India to Turkey. It then colonised Hungary in 1932, Austria in 1943, Germany in 1945, the Netherlands in 1947, Denmark in 1950, Sweden in 1951, France in 1952, Britain in 1955 and Iceland in 1971!
