FREEFORM HATCHING

When you are shading in areas in a tapestry, you might want to draw in the shape, or you may prefer to wing it and work freeform. The top border is an opportunity to play with more hatching in a freeform approach.

Note: The hatching in the sampler in the photos is done with the 2 colors entering the weaving from each edge. It’s essential that they are both in the same shed, so the blue begins weaving from the right, weaving over, under and the green enters from the left, weaving under, over.

1. Row 1: With green, weave over, under to the center, and then turn the needle and weave back to the edge, weaving under, over to the edge.

With blue, weave under, over to the center, turn the needle and weave back to the edge, weaving over, under.
