If the self assessment is dichotomous, i.e. âYes, I didâ or âNo, I did notâ, then page 5 could take a number of forms. Two such forms are illustrated in Figures 5.15 and 5.16.
Figure 5.15 Variation 4 Figure 5.16 Variation 5 The premise on which this self-monitoring practice is based is that the pupil wants to improve his or her behaviour: the teacherâs role is that of facilitator. However a number of outcomes can result from the exercise.
(i) The pupil fails to self-monitor: in this case it may be suggested to the pupil that conjoint teacherâpupil monitoring will help him or her to realise the commitment to self-monitor (see next section).
(ii) The pupil self-monitors but no behaviour change ensues: in this case address the following questions.
(a) Has the pupil the academic skills to achieve the target behaviour?
(b) Has the pupil the social skills to achieve the target behaviour?
(c) Does the pupil know how to apply the above skills?
(d) Does the pupil know when to apply the above skills?
(e) Does the pupil know when he or she has successfully applied the above skills (i.e. do they receive feedback)?
(f) Does the pupil have the necessary directions and instructions to follow?
