Work 3½ inches in pattern before stitches are divided equally for front and back, and worked separately to the shoulders where pattern finishes, and shoulders and neck stitches are divided into 3 equal quantities for the front and back. Each shoulder has 2 purl ridges, ending with 2 plain rows, this helps to shape neck. When both front shoulders are finished, work on back in same way, and cast off back and front shoulders together, forming another shoulder ridge. When the shoulders are joined, pick up neck and shoulder stitches about 148 to 150, and knit neck band in the round, and finish with 2 inches ribbing. Pick up stitches round armholes, they are 8½ inches deep, a 2 inch section of the pattern is worked round the top of the sleeves (see figure 84) with ribbing top and bottom. Continue sleeves on the round decreasing 1 stitch each side of seam stitch every 3 rows, until sleeve measures 15½ inches, knit a ribbed cuff. Full measure 18 inches.
