A negative direction is indicated by (−) where scores in different characteristics change in opposite directions such as scores increase in one characteristic as scores decrease on the other characteristic.

A correlation shows strength of the relation by how consistent is the amount of change in one characteristic for every uniform change in another characteristic. A perfectly consistent change is either +1.00 for a positive correlation and −1.00 for a negative correlation. No correlation between characteristics is indicated by .00 for a correlation.
