FRONT LEGS

Start with the two front legs: with bulky yarn, using the larger needles (US 13, 9 mm), cast on 7 stitches and knit 7 rows. Next: *knit row to last 2 stitches, knit those 2 stitches together; repeat from * on next row = 5 stitches. Knit 28 rows. Break off yarn and leave stitches on needle. Make second leg the same way as first one. Break off yarn and leave stitches on needle.

HEAD

Start at the nose, with larger needle and bulky yarn, cast on 7 stitches and knit 2 rows.

Row 3: knit first stitch, increase 1 stitch (increase by picking up yarn between stitches with left-hand needle, then knitting through back of loop over needle), knit 2, increase 1 stitch, knit 1, increase 1, knit 2, increase 1, knit last stitch = 11 stitches.

Rows 4, 6, 8, 10, 12: knit.

Row 5: knit 1, increase 1, knit 4, increase 1, knit 1, increase 1, knit 4, increase 1, knit 1 = 15 stitches.

Row 7: knit 1, increase 1, knit 6, increase 1, knit 1, increase 1, knit 6, increase 1, knit 1 = 19 stitches.

Row 9: knit 1, increase 1, knit 8, increase 1, knit 1, increase 1, knit 8, increase 1, knit 1 = 23 stitches.

Row 11: knit 1, increase 1, knit 10, increase 1, knit 1, increase 1, knit 10, increase 1, knit 1 = 27 stitches.

Row 13: knit first stitch, *knit 2 stitches together; repeat from * 5 more times (for a total of 6 times knit-2-together), knit 1, *knit 2 stitches together; repeat from * 5 more times (again, for a total of 6 times), knit last stitch = 15 stitches.

Rows14-26: knit (13 rows).
