I don’t know what I like, I like all the styles, or I like everything about their style.

Sometimes we don’t really take note about the things that we really like. One of the best pieces of advice I got before I started looking at homes was to be really observant of other people’s homes and pay attention when I saw homes online. I started to recognize what brings me joy when I encounter it. Some places to find inspiration is in your friends’ and family’s homes, Pinterest, Instagram, Houzz and other websites dedicated to showcasing interiors. With social media today, it is super easy to create your own vision board for your home. Keep a digital or hard copy record of the things you love.

Be careful not to create unrealistic expectations for your home as you look for inspiration. Remember that the photos you see are staged and many times the budget exceeds your own. The point of this activity or gathering ideas is not to discourage you, it is to give you hope and inspiration for creation.

The more you think about what makes your life story interesting and different, the more you can feel confident in the things that you love because they have meaning unique to you. If you can tell the story of the things in your home, you have your own style. There are few completely original designs, but your story is the only one like it.
