It was a nicely shared meal and much was said regarding the incident that left the family homeless and even though they hadnât even considered staying for a length of time, they were offered a place to stay until they could get back on their feet.
As the conversation took place, Paul found himself very pleased and feeling very blessed, considering the fact that Ben was a farmer and he would come in very handy at teaching him what he needed to know.
Now, all Paul had to do was confess the truth and then hope and pray for the best. As he searched for words and looked over the faces, and then glanced down seeing the children, he found himself not able to confess in front of young children.
He came to the conclusion that he would have to put it off a while longer, in favor of not setting things right in front of those little eyes staring on at him. Realizing that he had traveled to Katieâs in order to work her farm; he politely asked her if there was anything that she needed him to do at this time, outside.
âOf course not! I would not hear of it. I think what we will do is we will just enjoy the time and get to know one another while Ben heals up, and then perhaps when he is well, then we can start thinking about work. How does that sound?â
âThat sounds great Katie, but I still can do some handy work in the meantime. You let me know what needs to be done.â
âWell, if I think of something, you'll be the first to know Paul.â
âKatie, why donât you let me and Susie and little Kaleb clean up the breakfast dishes and you and Paul go and enjoy a walk around your farm. I'm sure he would be excited to see your farm.â
âThank you, Sandra, that sounds wonderful. Would you like that Paul?â
âI couldnât think of anything better.â
They were out the door before anyone could stop them. Side by side they strolled around the farm, discussing the rich soil, the horses that were seen behind the barn and the cattle that were scattered across the hill. Paul couldnât think of a better time than to tell her what he had wanted to tell her, and as he began trying to approach the subject, Katie could feel that he was growing uncomfortable.
âPaul, I've been thinking about something. Here is what I would like to do if you would be up for it. Since I have opened my home up to this family who are in need, I know that it wonât be long until Ben is up on his feet.
"I also sense that he'll feel as if he needs to earn his keep. Would it bother you if we were to wait until he's feeling better and then we can start you working on the farm?â
âI have no problem with that, but surely you'll need something done.â
âI'm sure I will find some things you can do, like picking vegetables from the garden, or riding into town to get supplies.
