Mermaid Enchantment

Stories of mermaids have been told for centuries in folklore, legend and fairytales, and images of such enchanted water sprites have appeared in art as diverse as ancient Greek pottery and 21st-century films. The traditional image of a mermaid is of a mysterious and enticing maiden with the face and body of a woman but with a fish tail instead of legs. Mermaids are sometimes glimpsed sunning themselves on wave-washed rocks, combing their long hair and admiring their reflection in pearly mirrors. They may wear a seaweed crown and adorn themselves with pearls and other treasures of the deep. This sweet mermaid is reminiscent of Hans Christian Andersen’s delightful yet tragic creation.

This lovely young mermaid is sure to enchant everyone. She gleams with iridescent metallic threads and is framed by a sea-theme border of shells, seahorses and tropical fish.
