TRUE REPENTANCE AND PURIFICATION

In discussing repentance, author Henry Brandt told of driving to Chicago with his wife. Somewhere along the way he made a wrong turn, but he didn’t want to admit it. They kept seeing signs that gave the miles to Detroit, and his wife thought that odd, but Brandt was reluctant to admit he had taken a wrong road. He kept trying to figure out a way to turn around without actually turning around. True repentance always involves admitting we are wrong and humbling ourselves before God and making a full U-turn away from the sin. We simply cannot get back on the right track without a broken heart before God and a complete U-turn.

We are in the process of being transformed, and we struggle every day with sin. But we can experience real victory when God purifies us.

Look again at 1 John 1:7, and see if you can discern the two things that will follow true repentance:
