Ride the Groove

Learn to do the chunka chunka without playing notes. I went over this in both “Guitar Instruction For The Not So Serious Guitar Player” and also “Guitar Improvisation In 7 Minutes”

Once you can cop the groove without notes and only rhythm, then you can start to play single notes.

Once you can play one note riding the groove, listen to what you played, add, another note or two, rest and repeat. If you can play two or three notes resting and repeating, you can change and add more notes.
