The visual equivalent of good up-to-date jazz
The further development of jazz may now depend, to a great extent, on the appearance and acceptance of the jazz composer, because the improvising soloist cannot go much further without him. Jazz will perhaps continue to draw inspiration from European sources, particularly in the use of well-tried musical forms, instead of being content with mere strings of rambling solos. Whatever direction it takes it must, beneath it all, keep the elusive spirit of the blues alive—the flavour that will always let us know that it really is jazz and not just any modern music.
