Biographical Outline

February 11, 1891: Joseph Adolph Kuhlman married Emma Walkenhorst, Concordia, Missouri.

May 9, 1907: Kathryn Johanna Kuhlman was born.

October 6, 1913: Myrtle Kuhlman married Everett Parrott, Sedalia, Missouri.

Spring, 1921: Kathryn was born again in the Methodist Church, Concordia.

April 4, 1922: Joseph Kuhlman elected mayor.

1924:00:00 Kathryn joined Myrtle and Everett on tent-circuit in Washington and Oregon. She was called to preach sometime during these years; probably somewhere in Idaho.

1928: Kathryn began her own ministry in Boise, Idaho.

1933: Pueblo, Colorado, meetings marked her first "permanent" location as a preacher. She remained here for six months.

August 27, 1933: First meetings in Denver Remained here five years. Began first radio programs, KVOD.

December 28, 1934: Joseph Kuhlman struck by car. Died two days later without regaining consciousness and without seeing Kathryn. (1865-1934).

February 25, 1935: Denver Revival Tabernacle established with Kathryn as founder-director. The building was completed in June.

1936: Emma Kuhlman was born again and received the baptism of the Holy Spirit at one of Kathryn's Denver meetings.

Early 1937: Texas evangelist Burroughs Waltrip, one of many visiting preachers, makes his first visit to Denver Revival Tabernacle. Later that year, he filed for divorce, leaving his first wife with two small sons. He established a work called Radio Chapel in Mason City, Iowa.

1938: Kathryn invited to preach at Radio Chapel, dedicated in July.

October 18, 1938: Kathryn and Burroughs Waltrip are married in Mason City. Almost immediately Radio Chapel closes, and the couple leaves Iowa.

1943: The Waltrips preach in Pittsburgh, where Kathryn meets Maggie Hartner, who was to be her longtime aide, for the first time. Later that year, Waltrip allowed Kathryn to preach in Portland, Oregon, but news of their marriage leaked out, causing the meeting to be canceled. Burroughs and Kathryn moved to an apartment in Los Angeles, California. There she had her "death-to-self" experience.

1944: Kathryn left Waltrip, bought one-way ticket to Franklin, Pennsylvania, for a two-week meeting. Never saw Waltrip again. She ministered in other midwestern and southern states.

1945: Kathryn was reported in local newspaper as a "divorcee" in Columbus, Georgia. Burroughs, however, had not yet filed for a divorce. She returned to Franklin, Pennsylvania.

February, 1946: Kathryn rented Gospel Tabernacle, the site of Billy Sunday revivals, from M. J. Maloney. She began airing her messages over Oil City Radio Station WKRZ. Later, she added a station in Pittsburgh. In November, she met two widows who invited her to move in with them from her attic rooms at the Business Women's Club. One widow died, leaving her the start of an extensive collection of precious jewels and antiques. The other, Eve Conley, became Kathryn's personal secretary-lifelong confidante.

1946: This also was the year she visited traveling "faith healers" and was disgusted and grieved over what she saw. This caused her to begin to search the Scriptures concerning the Holy Spirit.

April, 1947: She began series on the Holy Spirit, and soon, a woman stood up and said she had been healed the night before and it had been verified by her doctor. A few weeks later, a second healing was verified.
